Overview
The Catalina SPAR™ is an FAA Part 25 transport class amphibious aircraft platform designed to operate from land and water in coastal, island and remote ocean environments. Built on the legacy of the most capable amphibious aircraft ever developed, the SPAR™ platform carries forward a proven approach to range, versatility and reliability. Designed for multi-mission use, it supports transport, patrol, firefighting and rescue operations with an emphasis on performance, adaptability and mission capability.
Capability
The Catalina SPAR™ is designed to replace multiple specialized aircraft with a single adaptable platform, reducing operational complexity while expanding mission capability. With amphibious access across ocean, rivers, lakes and unimproved surfaces, it enables direct point-to-point operations without reliance on traditional infrastructure, opening new routes and improving response time in remote and high-demand environments. Engineered for sustained operations, Catalina SPAR™ supports extended range, long-duration missions with meaningful payload capacity, allowing operators to cover large areas efficiently. Its durable construction and simplified support requirements enable reliable performance in austere conditions, supporting higher uptime and greater operational independence.

Range
The Catalina SPAR™ is designed for extended operations across large geographic areas, with a maximum ferry range of 3,200 nautical miles and a cruise range of 2,700 nautical miles. Its endurance, including loiter capability of up to 24 hours, supports sustained missions over ocean, coastal and remote regions.
Performance
With maximum speeds of 305 knots and a cruise speed of 285 knots, the Catalina SPAR™ delivers efficient transit and on-station performance. A service ceiling of 25,000 feet enables operations across a wide range of mission profiles and environmental conditions.
Capacity
The Catalina SPAR™ has a maximum takeoff weight of up to 68,500 pounds (land) and 65,500 pounds (water), supporting substantial payload and operational flexibility across missions. The platform is designed to support multiple configurations, including:
Up to 40 passengers
23,500 lbs internal payload
22,750 lbs internal fuel load
The platform supports configurable mission systems and modular interiors, allowing rapid adaptation between passenger, cargo and mission-specific roles. Integrated features such as adjustable height landing gear, marine stabilization systems and optional aerial refueling capability support operations in demanding and remote environments.

Supportability
The Civilian Variant is constructed using modern corrosion resistant materials, assembly practices and supportability initiatives to ensure the Material Availability and Operational Availability (Ao) remains at the highest rates possible. Many existing and proven in-service systems are employed to minimize logistics footprint growth and provide for commonality of components between the NGAA Catalina II and existing / emerging in-service aerial platforms.
Safety
The Catalina SPAR™ is designed to meet FAA Part 25 transport category standards, incorporating modern flight systems, structural integrity and operational safeguards required for demanding multi-mission environments. The platform builds on a proven amphibious architecture, integrating contemporary avionics and control systems to support safe and reliable operations across land and water.
Purpose-built for maritime and remote operations, the aircraft eliminates the limitations of float-converted designs through a fully integrated hull and amphibious configuration. Key safety features include:
- Integrated amphibious hull design with no external float structures
- Fly-by-wire flight control system
- Adjustable height landing gear for controlled land and water operations
- Marine stabilization systems for improved handling in dynamic water conditions
- Dual-mode configuration controls to prevent improper gear or water operation states
- Advanced cockpit interface designed to reduce pilot workload
Production Development
Catalina Aircraft Company is actively advancing the Catalina SPAR™ platform through ongoing engineering, program planning and industry engagement. The focus is on establishing a scalable path to production aligned with certification, operational requirements and long-term market demand.
